Where did you get the download from? It should be www.openoffice.org If
not, please delete the file you downloaded and download the one from that
web site.

Once you have a file from the right place, check its MD5sum. On the right
hand side of the download page there's a list of links. Scroll down to the
one named "MD5sums" and click it. Click the "Instructions ..." link and
follow those instructions.

If the MD5sum doesn't check out then your download got corrupted; try again
or, if you prefer, purchase the software on CD from one of the vendors
listed on the download page. This service is mainly intended for people with
slow/expensive/unreliable internet connections.

Assuming the MD5sums check out, the problem lies with your AntiVirus (AV)
software; this is quite a common problem known as a "false positive". To
solve it:
1. Disconnect your computer from the internet
2. Disable the AV software
3. Install OpenOffice - you won't be able to register as you aren't
connected to the net; just say "register later" or "already registered".
Note that registration is entirely optional and that not registering won't
affect your use of OpenOffice in any way - the authors just like to know
roughly how many users there are, where they are and which platforms
(Windows, Mac, Linux, ...) they are using.
4. Enable AV
5. Connect to the net; never leave your computer connected to the net if
your AV and firewall are not both running properly.

If, after all this, you still have a problem, come back here with all the
sordid details and we'll think again.
