Your website sometimes has an extra "services" i.e.
extensions.services.openoffice.org -- why the services? Why not just switch
it to extensions.openoffice.org? I've noticed that going to
extensions.openoffice.org seems to go to a different place, but
services.openoffice.org doesn't even work. What's going on here?

The simple answer is that this is due to where some parts of the OpenOffice.org web services are hosted. There are limitations to what is possible within the Colabnet infrastructure (Colabnet is the host for the OOo website). To provide additional web services beyond what can easily be done within the Colabnet infrastructure, some parts of the openoffice.org website are hosted elsewhere, and linked via *.services.openoffice.org.

Generally, anything you see that is something.services.openoffice.org is hosted outside the Collabnet infrastructure. For example, the forum at http://user.services.openoffice.org and the Wiki at http://wiki.services.openoffice.org are hosted on servers in the Sun offices in Hamburg, Germany.
