I am using Open Office 2.4 and have two questions:
1. When I create a document and save it to a file folder in My Documents and
I open up the folder that has my created file in it, it has an icon with a
small square with six dots in it, then when I click on that icon of my
created document I get a window reading "Open With" with a number of programs to
choose from, one of which is Open Office 2.4 - then I have to click on OO 2.4
in order to open my document. Why must I choose the OO 2.4 program to open
the file when it was created in that program to begin with, why can't I open it

someone else who does not have OO but lets say, MS Word they cannot open up my
attachment - is there a way to get around this so they can open my attachment?
I suspect you don't have any file extension on those files. When you
use Save as, ensure automatic file name extension is selected.
As for sending Word files, the default text document format is the ISO
standard ODT format, which Microsoft refuses to support. You have three
options.
1) Get the recipient to install OpenOffice
2) Get the recipient to install the Sun ODF plugin, which will add ODF
support to Microsoft Office
3) Send the file in Word format, instead of ODT. You can do this by
selecting Word format, from the drop down list, when using Save as or
simply click on File > Send > E-mail as Microsoft Word.
