I installed Openoffice 2.2.1 from the Debian web site (I am running
lenny). It seems that many of the database functions don't work in this
version, and this is the latest version on the Debian web site. I tried
them (downloading the mysql connector, but can't connect, and if I use a
spreadsheet as the database, the form wizard, table wizard, report
wizard do not launch).

If I download the latest version (.debs) from the openoffice web site
and install them as per the instructions, what will happen to my "debian
version" that I installed with etch?

Should I uninstall the version that comes with etch first, and then
install the .debs from openoffice.org?

Are any of my data files in danger of being obliterated by uninstalling
the "debian version"?

Thanks!

Mark
