I don't want to be blunt, but you seem to be missing the point. This list is maintained by volunteers, who only try to help others with the use of OpenOffice. We are not in a position to submit anything to the Navy. My repeated question to you, is there any process that someone within the Navy can do, to bring in OpenOffice. This means *YOU*. Since you're in IT in the Navy, I'd expect you would be aware of some process to do this. Does the Navy expect all open source projects to go through some submission process, when there's no company behind them? Can *YOU*, as someone doing IT in the Navy, not recommend it? We are not IBM or Microsoft, who have the resources to chase after the Navy.

Again, is there no process within the Navy to bring in such software? Much open source software is produced by volunteers, who wouldn't be
able to run much in the way of compliance testing. I haven't noticed
anyone on this list offering to do that.
For starters, we'd have no idea what the requirements are.

We would like to use Open Office in a training environment to replace

our aging MS Office suite. It must be on an approved list to be used.
The Navy has now stated that we should try to use open source software
if possible. We would have about 500 - 1000 users. Getting it approved
for NAVY use would really get the ball rolling. How bout it?
How does one get an application approved? Is there not a process where someone in the Navy can request approval?
