Really, really off topic and please take a hard look at the date: 1st of April. I just thought it was too good not to share...
Cheers, Michele Trieste, Italy, 1st April 2008 - The PLIO association, Progetto Linguistico Italiano OpenOffice.org, has announced the availability of OOoCrackz, an extension designed to activate the free Office suite in cracked mode. This will meet the needs of 51% of the Italian users who are accustomed to using illegal copies of software packages. The extension can be downloaded at the following address:http://www.plio.it/ooocrackz.oxt. Davide Dozza, the president of PLIO remarked: "After seeing the result of a recent survey from IDC* sponsored by the Business Software Alliance, we realized that the OpenOffice.org license represents an obstacle to the adoption of the software for Italian users who install predominantly illegal software. The installation of OOoCrakz takes away from the user three of the four fundamental liberties and makes illegal access to the code, modification and distribution of the software, just as if OpenOffice.org was a proprietary software". OOoCracks has been developed by Paolo Mantovani from the PLIO association, one of the major international expert in macros and extensions for OpenOffice.org how declared: "The first version of the extension only allows the activation of in illicit mode, but we are working on the evolution towards a complete product which -for example- will prevent the release of documents with Creative Commons license. This will eliminate the risk that users inadvertently abide the copyright laws". In order to make the experience thoroughly fulfilling, the users who want to use OpenOffice.org in illegal mode, as if it was a proprietary program, OOoCrackz prevents the registration and blocks all the updates so that the program will quickly become subject to security threats and obsolescent, just like the illegal copies of the software used by 51% of the Italians. The extension also creates an entry in the Help menu with all the necessary information. "The annual Assembly of the PLIO association had announced marketing initiatives aimed to increase the penetration of OpenOffice.org in the Italian market. With this announcement, we target the illegal software sector, for which neither a strategy or an appropriate offer existed. This will also help towards calculating a more realistic market share, another area where we felt damaged" stated Italo Vignoli a director of the PLIO association. * The Economic Benefits of Lowering PC Software Piracy, January 2008 (link to the summary of the findings http://www.bsa.org/upload/idc-findings_summary.pdf, link to the methodology http://www.bsa.org/upload/idc_methodology_final.pdf). --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
