i downloaded, used a word document, tried to print it, from MAC,
nothing happened and I don't see an icon on the bottom, or menu, of
the MAC

After you download it, you have to start the installation, by
double clicking on the file you downloaded. When the installation
has completed, you'll find an OpenOffice folder and icons in your
Start menu.
