In my experience, there is no problem with interference between OpenOffice and MS Office on the same computer. Remember, however, that if you do not wish MS Office files to be automatically opened in the corresponding standard formats used in Open Office, you should refrain from ticking the relevant boxes on the settings page that you see immediately after installing the OOo package....
