Have asked the author, who said (in 2 replies):

"Modifications to extensions.checkCompatibility certainly aren't required any
more.

I guess the question concerns extensions.checkUpdateSecurity. In the first
versions of the XPI, I didn't include a SHA1 hash (which I think caused
installation issues for FF3).

The recent versions of the XPI (including 1.6) include the SHA1 hash... so
on reflection perhaps the query is right.

But I'll retest on FF3. Thanks for the tip.

Pete.

If you don't disable the FF3 option for update security, the add on is
disabled. If FF3 and/or Phorm ever launches I'll think over my options.

Dephormation was never meant to be a long term solution, or a prop for
Phorm, or particularly wise security measure. Just enough to demonstrate the
idiocy of Phorms cookie opt out to ISPs and their customers, and if
necessary buy a little time (for me at least) to move to a new ISP.

If your contact is relying on Dephormation for security/privacy they might
be better doing the same perhaps?

Pete.

Hope that makes some sort of sense to you!

Well OT now for this list, I think! Sorry all. Heads up about Phorm-like systems
though - it's not the only snake in the pit apparently.
