You need a type of software called OCR (Optical Character Recognition). Such software almost certainly came on a CD that came with your scanner. "Readiris", "Textbridge" and "Omnipage" are popular examples of such software. One of them may well be what you have. Whatever you have, use it to scan and convert to an RTF (Rich Text Format) file and then open the file with OpenOffice. Unfortunately I don't know of any OCR software that will convert to OpenOffice format.

Also, please don't send e-mails in ALL UPPER CASE. It's considered to be shouting and therefore rude. Instead, if you need to, please use a larger font.
