Hi, Doris, and welcome to OpenOffice.org. After downloading, the next
step is to double-click on the icon of the downloaded file to start the
installation, and it sounds as if you may have done that and then seen a
folder with the installation files in it. You really don't need that
folder any more, though you might want to keep the original downloaded
file in case you need to reinstall for any reason. But after the
installation, you should have a folder for OOo in your Start menu.
That's where you'll find the icons for all the OOo applications; you can
copy them onto your desktop if you'd like more direct access.
