What do you mean with "I have tried several language versions"?
Could you explain these steps?

Please disable (if enabled)
[ ] Check in all languages
in
Tools | Options | Language Settings | Writing Aids | Options.

Do you have the same problems with 'AutoSpellcheck'?

Which version of OpenOffice.org do you use?
