Frank,

Sorry to hear of your problems. Let me try to sort things out for you.

First, there is no "company." OpenOffice.org (that's the official name) is an
office suite that has all the capabilities of Microsoft Office, but is open
source and free. "Open source" means that it is developed as a volunteer
community effort by programmers from all over the world. Therefore, there is
nothing like a telephone number to call for help. Instead, OOo users ask
questions here, and other volunteers like me reply. Sometimes it takes a number
of e-mails before we solve someone's problem, but we are usually successful.
You have found the best place to ask questions.

Regarding being lost, that happens to some people. As I said before, OOo has
all the capabilities of Microsoft Office - but the buttons are in different
places and sometimes the processes are different. You'd find the same thing if
you switched to WordPerfect or any other word processor. You are going through
a learning phase that some people find annoying and difficult. There is no cure
except to plunge in and figure out the OOo way of doing things. However, you
have this e-list to help you - literally thousands of volunteers from all over
the planet. Whenever you can't figure something out on your own, just ask and
someone will respond, usually within just hours.

I do feel your pain about the Help files. Sometimes open source software is
weak on documentation. The problem is that the people writing the Help
documentation can explain how to do something, but can't anticipate all the
things that might go wrong when someone hits the wrong button.

Regarding your specific problem saving files, can you be more specific about
what is going wrong? What exactly do you do to save a file, and what happens
when you do? Also, what operating system are you using (Windows, Mac, Linux)?
