You can only download the complete package. While it is possible to
install only some components, that's not recommended, as it won't save
much disk apace and you may lose some functions.
What do I lose if I want only to write documents?
I have installed OOo 2.4 in my Xen-Engine under Windows Fiasco Ultimate
and it consums over 380 MByte... I know the lastes version if this M$
product is useless blown but now, OSS is oing the same way and ignoring
that many peoples need recent versions of programs but using older
computers where such big installations are tooooooooooo much.
Try to install WinXP on a P3/450 with 256 MB of memory plus an 6.4 GByte
HDD and then try to offer OOo for free... He/She will kill you.
I don't know how much would be saved by installing only Writer, but it
wouldn't be that much. Unlike Microsoft Office, OpenOffice is an
integrated package, where much of the code is shared between the various
components. That system you mentioned was considered the minumum for
XP, when it first came out and below what's required for decent performance.
