Is this true ? Or do they also have to download OPEN OFFICE in order to be able
to receive files ?

By default, OpenOffice saves files in the ISO standard ODF file formats,
which Microsoft refuses to support. You'll have to save the files in
Microsoft Office format. You can do this in Save as, by selecting the
appropriate file format from the drop down list. Also ensure automatic
file name extension is selected. You can also email directly by
clicking on File > Send > E-mail as Microsoft Word. You might also
suggest to your friends that they install the Sun ODF plugin, which adds
ODF support to Microsoft Office.
