Can I open an OpenOffice document in WORD?
I've tried searching your site's FAQ section, but there is no clear cut
answer to my questions.
OpenOffice has excellent, though not perfect compatibility with
Microsoft Office, except for files saved in the new Office 2007 formats
(.DOCX, XLSX etc). This means you can work with Word files that have
the extension .DOC. By default, OpenOffice saves in the ISO standard
ODF file formats, which Microsoft refuses to support, so if you're
creating new files, you'll have to remember to save them in Word
format. You can do this in "Save as", by selecting the appropriate file
format from the drop down list. Also, ensure automatic file name
extension is selected. Another method, is to have the people running
Microsoft Office install the Sun ODF plugin, which enables ODF support
in Microsoft Office.
