Hello Carl, You will have to accept a default formatting in the same way as you accept the character set of your typewriter. The good news is that you can easily modify the default formatting to your needs. So for the community to be able to help you, you should try to tell us what problems you are experiencing. One thing I can tell you immediately is the following: OpenOffice.org applies the default style to every paragraph. Therefore, when you press the return key (and start a new paragraph) OpenOffice.org applies again the default. A possible way around is to press Shift + Return instead of simply pressing return to start a new line. A better way is to change the default style to *your* default style.
