Keep at it'; you missed something somewhere. Read carefully what comes uip on the screen. Create your own auto-correction maybe.

So, Twayne, does the built-in en-dash feature not work on your computer either?

I keep repeating, go into Tools -> Autocorrect... and under the Options tab make sure that “Replace dashes” has checks beside it.

Then “ -- ” or “ - ”automatically becomes an en-dash if typed following an alphabetic character or a following a numeric digit and is then followed by another alphabetic character or by a numeric digit.

As far as I know this always worked on every version of OpenOffice. Now it is possible that this feature currently doesn’t work on one or another version of OpenOffice.org 2.4. In which case the answer is to inform OpenOffice.org of the problem.

However since no-one has stated that my instructions don’t work for them, except for Thomas Steel, I don’t currently think this, especially since Thomas Steel refers to using the Replace feature of Autocorrect..., which has nothing to do with the built-in OpenOffice.org feature or anything I’ve written.

Some people don’t like having a Word-Processor do anything except exactly what they tell it, and upon installing it will immediately turn off everything in Autocorrect.... Then of course, the feature won’t work for them. Perhaps you have done this?
