Well, "easily" is a bit misleading for some.  IMO newbies should choose 
to NOT change the default application to OOo and do so later once they 
are sure they want it.  That way, if one's starting interest is say 
Word/Writer, they ALL (Excel, PP, etc., ) don't get changed.
   It's not that the change isn't so easy, but that there is a lot to it 
to get everything changed in file associations that needs to be changed. 
IMO it's easier to uninstall/reinstall OOo to make such changes<g>.
