I was expecting to be able to use this program to substitute for MS Word.
Yes, millions of us do just that every day :)
After downloading OPENOFFICE I get a page full of cabinets. Is there anyway I can simply open a word processing File? Dick Bassette
The "page full of cabinets" might be "leftovers" from the installation process. Have you actually run the installer file you downloaded. If so, look in your "Start -> All Programs" menu and you will find all the OOo (OpenOffice.org) programs there. If not, find the file you downloaded (something like "OOo_2.4.0_Win32Intel...install.exe") and double click on it.
There is a tutorial available at: http://www.tutorialsforopenoffice.org/tutorial/Download_2_3.html which may help you.
