Please explain how the risk of viruses is increased by using Writer's UI to create an e-mail message (or a reply to one). Can an ODF macro be malware? Presumably it can. But that problem exists now with attachments. Using Writer to create or reply to mail messages does *not* mean that what gets sent is in ODF format or can contain macros. What gets sent would be *exactly* the same as what gets sent when you create a "modern" e-mail with a "modern" mail program i.e. a message that can contain pretty formatting, live links etc. > Plus I like the nix tradition of having several smaller, leaner programs to > do specialized tasks rather than one granddaddy program that does everything > and walks the dog. I agree. And that's exactly what I've said. To be brutal, right now today OpenOffice breaks that tradition: a) It's a single unsplittable download and b) when new users ask if they can install, for example, Writer on its own we say "yes but you won't save much and it might break so better not". <snip> -- Harold Fuchs London, England Please reply *only* to [email protected]
