been abandoned. I'd much rather use SQLite than Base.

Not as an embedded database but rather as an external file - Base does not mandate any particular database engine - the embedded model is just one option that's all.

You can use SQLite now via ODBC, the current work is on a SQLlite native drive for the external file (no ODBC in the middle) and Base for the UI.

As for MDBTools and Base - I haven't found anyone that has had much success making this work, someone showing me that I am wrong on that would make my day.
