I have achieved a Writer document with a "/" as the last character of a line and "REF/" as the first 4 characters of the next line. That's on Win XP with both 2.3 and 2.4 (different machines). I use A4 paper size. Try ending a line with "dd ddd d dd dddd /REF/ ". On my systems (plural) that results in the leading slash at the end of a line and the "REF/" on the next. It's *not* as simple as just having a space before the first slash but I haven't yet been able to find a minimal set of conditions under which it occurs. I assume the minimal conditions will depend to some extent on the line length i.e. on the configured paper size and margins. I thought at first I could overcome the problem by tinkering with the Hyphenation options but no luck so far. I now don't believe it's connected to hyphenation. I also tried defining the "/REF/" as the clickable text relating to a hyperlink but that doesn't work either; my example still splits after the first slash :-( Jim Allan's use of "weird" (sorry, Jim) unicode characters with CTL might be the only way forward.
