My Win XP pro 2.4 installation of OpenOffice, and I think 99.999...% of other perople's installations, prints portrait unless I tell it to print landscape. The Subject of your message refers to ".doc" files. This means you are trying to print a Microsoft Office document and *not* an OpenOffice document. Are you 100% sure the document has its page orientation set to Portrait? How did you acquire this document? Page orientation is carried within the document and can change from page to page. Try opening your original .doc document in OOo Writer and doing Format>Page. Look at the Page tab. On the left is the page orientation setting. Check that this is set correctly. If not, change it to what you want and save the document as either a .doc (Microsoft) or as a .odf (OpenOffice). Now try to print the first few pages.
