I have just installed Ubuntu onto my PC to dual boot with WinXP. I am a
total novice with respect to Linux and I want to see if I can get on
with it.
I am eager to install, if possible, OOo Dev300m14 alongside the Ubuntu
supplied 2.4 version as I have in XP. Is this possible in Ubuntu? The
instructions on installation of release candidates into Ubuntu that
I've picked up from the archives and the 8dayaweek forum (from Dan Lewis
and Hagar de l'Est, respectively) say that the distro supplied OOo
version has to be removed before an RC can be installed. I can
understand that this is necessary with an RC since it will attempt to
overwrite/remove the installed version. Is this also the case with the
installation of the Dev300 versions or can I install it as per the
instructions in the archives to sit alongside the ubuntu version?
Thanks
Terry W
