OpenOffice, by default, saves files in ISO standard ODF file formats, which Microsoft Office does not yet understand. You'll have to save the files in PowerPoint format, instead of the default ODP. You can do this in "Save as", by choosing the appropriate file type, from the drop down list. Also ensure automatic file name extension is selected. Another method is to use the portable version of OpenOffice, which you can install on a flash drive and carry with you. You can get the portable version from http://portableapps.com/apps/office/openoffice_portable.
