Inspired by, but not wanting to kidnap a docx thread, I'd like to ask if any
user here knows whether files in Microsoft's new database format accdb can
be accessed (pun intended) in OOo 3.0's Base. We all know, of course, that
Microsoft was forced to develop a new format incompatible with everything
else, as poor old mdb just didn't cut the mustard....

Under MS Windows XP/Vista all 2.x versions of OpenOffice.org are capable
of connecting to .accdb files, if the proper ADO drivers are installed.
In these situations when creating the Base file one selects to 'Connect
to existing database', then select type of ADO and use the MS tools
necessary to create the connection data source.
Starting with Version 2.4 all binary distributions of OpenOffice.org for
MS Windows now include those drivers and a new type has been added to
the existing database connection type list, MS Access 2007. This uses a
sdbc driver that wraps around the ADO driver and does not require that
the user go to the separate step of creating a data source with the
Microsoft tool.
Starting with, IIRC, version 2.2 most Linux distributions of
OpenOffice.org dropped support for MS Access files, this includes the
version available from www.openoffice.org.
