Hi

The game itself is not Visual Basic but Adobe Flash, and the spreadsheet itself is an Excel 2003 '.xls' file.

I downloaded the Excel reader from Microsoft but that too does not open the file, it displays a large square with an 'X' through it. While I dont mind using an MS package if needed, I was hoping to stick to OOo if possible. Is there is an add-on available that I could install?

Regards

I got one of those quick, time wasting games by email today which was embedded in an Excel spreadsheet. I could open it in work, where I have MS Excel, but when I emailed it to myself at home, where I have OOo 2.4, it wont open in Calc. Can anyone suggest what the problem might be, and how I can fix it? I think the game might be written in Visual Basic, from my brief internet research, so might that be a problem?

That it won’t open at all in Calc is a bit of a puzzle, unless it is in Windows 2007 format.

But I wouldn’t expect it to work properly in Calc if it is written in VBA, which is probably the case. But you might be able to translate from VBA into OOo-Basic, that is, if you could get the thing to open.

You might begin by opening it at work tomorrow, copying any macros to text files, removing the macros, and then try emailing the macros and gutted Excel to yourself at home.

Or if it is in a new-style Excel file, try first saving to an older Excel format.

Or you might just download the Excel reader from <http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=c8378bf4-996c-4569-b547-75edbd03aaf0&displaylang=EN> and see if the game runs on it.
