You can download OpenOffice 3.0 Beta from http://download.openoffice.org/680/?intcmp=1461 or oxygenoffice from http://sourceforge.net/projects/ooop or go-oo from http://go-oo.org/ . The last two are effectively forks of OpenOffice.org and claim to be improved products. These all will purportedly open docx files. They should also be able to run along side you current OpenOffice.org without interfering with it.

Note, I have not received any docx files so have not tried converting docx with any of the above. Some reviews suggest there are still problems with some docx files with these products.

You can also download Microsoft Word Viewer 2003 and the extension which gives it the ability to handle docx files from <http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=95E24C87-8732-48D5-8689-AB826E7B8FDF&displaylang=en>. The Word viewer will then be able to read docx files and you can screen copy and paste them into OpenOffice.org.
