Is this a bug or am I just doing something wrong?

I opened a new spreadsheet (OpenOffice 2.4.1, GNU/Linux Ubuntu 8.04) and in one cell the formula is:
='file:///home/guraknugen/Eget/Bil/Bilekonomi/Hyrbilskostnader.ods'#$'2008'.P9

The value of P9 in the Hyrbilskostnader.ods file is 627.83, so the cell in the new spreadsheet should be the same, right? So why is it 0 (zero)?

Nothing is wrong spelled or something, since I had both files opened at the very same time, and I selected the cell in Hyrbilskostnader.ods using the mouse.

Here are some thoughts:

o If you change the value in the first file, it appears the effect cannot be transmitted until you save that file. An open file with a changed value will not produce the result you want.

o Changes are carried into the second file only - conditionally - when this file is opened or when explicitly requested. Go to Tools | Options... | OpenOffice.org Calc | General | Updating. If you have Never selected, you will need to request changes whenever you need them. If you have Always or "On request" selected, changes will (or may) be effected when you open the second file - but not otherwise. To stimulate an update otherwise, go to Edit | Links... | Update. A new link from another document is updated when it is created, but only from the saved version of that other document.

o Even if the values in the two cells are the same, they may display differently if the cells are differently formatted. To take perhaps silly examples, if the format in the cell in the first file were [=0]627.83;General , you could be seeing 627.83 even though the value there was really zero; conversely, if the format of the cell in the second file were [>500]\0;General , then a cell value of 627.83 would display as zero.

Incidentally, I'm slightly puzzled by the quote marks around your sheet name. If I put quote marks there, they are preserved by Calc only if the sheet name contains characters that require this, e.g. a blank. So your "2008" would not have quote marks around it in my version 2.4.1. for Windows. Is this perhaps a difference between OpenOffice versions for different operating systems or between locales?

I trust this helps.
