When entering formulas, such as =sum(A1:A5), I find it much safer to
type =sum() and then to back-arrow between the parenthesis to fill in
the parameters. Anyone who programs in mid- to high- level languages
will find this natural. However, in OOo pressing the arrow keys begins
the cell selection rectangle. I know that I could reconfigure the
arrow keys, but I would rather leave them as is because in other
contexts the default arrow key behaviour is intuitive.

How can one configure the arrow keys to move within the currently
edited cell, yet leave their behaviour intact in all other instances?

I have found a workaround by editing formulas in the bar at the top
(how do you call this?). However, this requires the use of the mouse
and slows work.

A: Because it messes up the order in which people normally read text.
Q: Why is top-posting such a bad thing?
