Barbara Duprey helped me with this problem. 

My os is xp and this is what happened in my case. The installer does not
prompt you with options for icons. It does not create desktop icons, ut
does creat start menu icons in the "Programs" section. You can then find
the paths for the programs and use them to create desktop icons, or you
may be able to drag and drop the start menu icons to the desktop. I hope
