Hello JC

NeoOffice isn't part of the OpenOffice.org community (anymore). NO uses
OOo's source to make their own program for Mac. OOo has a port for Mac (to
which the NO developers contributed in the past, but no more, 'officially'
because of a different licence). The advantage of NO over the OOo version
for Mac was that NO worked without the X11 windowing utility, and thus
seemed more 'mac-like'. The OOo's mac team is putting all its efforts to
finalise the Aqua version of OOo that will be native on Mac (no more X11
needed). You can already use the beta-2 version of the Aqua (like I do). See
http://porting.openoffice.org/mac

NO has its own support forum, as you found out. Most of the time, it refers
to the OOo users list for solutions. If it works, it's NO, if it doesn't,
it's OOo - that's the philosophy.

NO isn't exactly the same as OOo. To solve the initial problems linked to
bringing this package developed initially/mainly for Windows and Linux to
the Mac, and avoid using the often cumbersome X11, NO AFAIK uses a lot more
Java. This may affect some tools, like data merge.

I'm afraid I lost the problem you had with data merge... so maybe you can
state it again.

The Aqua beta-2 can be downloaded from here:
ftp://ooopackages.good-day.net/pub/OpenOffice.org/MacOSX/3.0.0beta2
OOo_3.0.0beta2_MacOSXIntel_install.dmg<ftp://ooopackages.good-day.net/pub/OpenOffice.org/MacOSX/3.0.0beta2/OOo_3.0.0beta2_MacOSXIntel_install.dmg>
is the US english version for Intel (for PowerPC lower on the pages, see
also other loanguages and locales
Base and thus mail merge function on this build.
