I downloaded and installed v2.4 for my Macbook Pro. I was under the impression
that this is a suite of applications including an editor, a spreadsheet
application, graphics application, etc. I only have access to an editor. Am I
doing something wrong or is that the only application available at this time?

Can you please check out the >File >New option that should give you the
access you need. You should also be able to use >File >Open for any
existing files.
This seems to be a regular cause of concern for mac users but I believe
that version 3 due out in September will address the problem.
