Hello Kathy, You don't appear to have done anything wrong. I was able to replicate that the problem exists. Evidently something is broken somewhere. However you might try the following link:
http://download.openoffice.org/other.html#en-US It will take you to a page with a lot of choices. Just make sure that you select the right one or you might find yourself looking at a whole new language.
