I have problems produsing Word and PDF documents with OpenOffice.org

when i save as Microsoft word 97/2000/XP(.doc) or export as PDF
format the document is saved without .doc or .pdf and are not readable
for other people.
They are not opened in OpenOffice when i dobbleclick on them, but i
can open then i i explisitly use openOfiice.
