You can purchase Star Office from
http://www.sun.com/software/staroffice/index.jsp .
This is mostly the same as OpenOffice, with extras, such as templates
and fonts that correspond more or less to those that comes with
Microsoft Office. It’s probably a good deal, if you need those fonts.
Some free fonts can be obtained through OpenOffice.org via File →
Wizards → Install fonts from the web.
A large number of fonts are available from
http://www.alanwood.net/unicode/fonts.html , most of them free. Though
Alan Wood says they are for Windows, they will also generally work on
other operating systems. In particular you should download the free
DejaVu fonts from http://dejavu.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/Main_Page.
You can also get the new Windows Vista fonts legally by downloading
Microsoft PowerPoint viewer free. See
http://www.hunlock.com/blogs/Downloading_and_Using_Vista_Web_Fonts .
The old Microsoft web core fonts are still available free from various
sources (though not from Microsoft). See
http://web.nickshanks.com/typography/corefonts , for example. Note that
newer versions of some/all? of these fonts with additional characters
have been issued by Microsoft since they stopped offering the free
versions. Those newer versions you will either have acquire legally in
other ways or acquire illegally.
There are numerous sites that offer various free fonts. See
http://www.google.ca/search?q=%22free+fonts%22&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t .
