Have files with following format:
First line:
column names, delimited by TABs, no text qualifiers
Following lines:
cells delimited by TABS.
I would like to import such a file into calc.
I see no
File -> Import
selection from the Menu.
Furthermore, using Help->Index "Import" doesn't
show me anything regarding this topic.
Pointers to documentation on this subject would be
sufficient.

Tim,
Try File -> Open inside Calc for the file. Then you should be presented
with an 'import' screen where you can select the delimiter for the file.
In your case, select the 'Tab' option.
