Yes, I do have tables in the document.

Yup, that is the advise I followed.

This is the option I followed and it was not that complicated at all.
Basically, I did the following:

1. Created a new equation and a new "Equation Numbered" para style. The
style has two tab positions, one in the middle of the page and one at
the right hand side of the text body part of the page. The first tab is
right before a dummy equation (E=mc^2). I did this since I did not want
tables in my equations.

2. After the second tab stop I created and inserted a new variable
called Equation. This was done by Insert->Field, going to Variable tab,
and creating a new Number Range called Equation. Closing this dialog box
inserted number 1 in the equation line in the document. This number
automatically increments when I add new numbered equations.

3. I enclosed that number with parenthesis as my preference. And also
set my equation para style as I wanted it to be. I make it linked to
None. This way, it lives by it own and is not affected by Text Body style.

4. Finally, I selected the whole equation in the document and created a
new auto text from Edit->AutoText... I gave is a name of Equation
Numbered and a shortcut of EQN.

5. Now by typing eqn and then F3 key gives me a dummy numbered equation
in which I can edit the formula to what I want.

Next, I also created a para style called Equation and then linked my
"Equation Numbered" para style with it. The reason was because I want an
un-numbered equation as well.

To create an un-numbered autotext, I followed the same procedure as
listed above but omitted inserting a number. I created a new para style,
"Equation un-numbered" and linked it to "Equation" para style. Now
whatever I want to change anything in para style of all equations, I
think all I need to do is to change the Equation style which should
change Equation Numbered and Equation Un-numbered styles. But I am
looking for confirmation to this since I created my 'base' Equation
style after creating the numbered equation para style.

Thanks,
