I find that Draw is a very good desktop publishing program. I used to use
Corel Draw for desktop publishing, and the two programs are very similar,
although Corel Draw has a lot more options.

I'm not convinced that Draw is "meant" to be a Visio program. I find that
Dia and Kivio are much closer programs to Visio. But I've never paid too
much attention to what a program is "meant" for - if I find it useful for a
task, I use it.

I have used Draw a lot as a drawing program though - especially when I was
working on a Mathematics tuition program. I tend to use Draw a lot for
business graphics and desktop publishing (brochures, flyers and
newsletters), and I use Inkscape for more "artistic" drawings, including web
graphics. Unfortunately, Draw doesn't natively handle SVGs, while Inkscape
uses SVG as its default format. (There is an extension to add SVG to Draw,
though.)

I created an A5 flyer for work this week, and I'm very happy with it. I also
use it to create more Visio-like documents too, including organisational
charts. If you'd to see some documents created with Draw, I have some quick
reference cards for OpenOffice.org available for download at
http://www.tryanotherangle.org/. (I'll get around to doing Impress and Base
cards one day...)

Personally, if you are happy with your documents in Draw, I'd keep using it.
If you'd like to try out Scribus, have a look at it. It's a very nice
program, but also more complex (and having more options) than Draw. Choose
the program that suits you.
