NoOp, for this relief, much thanks - your instructions worked like a charm, and the bouncy-spring icon on my panel now opens to OOo Writer 3.0.0-18 ! But I have yet another problem with OOo - both version 2.4.1 and version 3 beta 2 - which I find irritating and a bit embarrassing, as it is precisely that which I attempted to help Lisi with in Kubuntu ; i e, I can't get SCIM to input CJK in OOo ! I have no problem using SCIM to enter these glyphs in the Gnome text editor or in Gmail, but as mentioned above, it won't do so in OOo or, for that matter, when I attempt to use the Picasa «Send with Gmail» feature to write messages in these languages accompanying a photo to be sent to a friend or acquaintance. I've mentioned earlier that I also experience this failure in trying to enter Unicode glyphs in texts in OOo using the «Ctrl+Shift +u → hexdecimal code → space bar» technique, which, however, like SCIM, works quite well in the Gnome text editor and in Gmail. I'm rather certain that the two problems are connected - and may, perhaps, have more to do with SCIM than with OOo - but I find them odd, given that a month or so ago, they didn't exist, and the version of SCIM I have installed, 1.4.7, has not been changed in the meantime. If you or any SCIM users in OOo have any ideas as to what might be happening here, I should be grateful to hear them - in the event they work for me they would probably do so for Lisi in Kubuntu as well.... Henri
