Are you by any chance using Vista? It has some things to "help" you with
security, and sometimes programs are not really installed unless you are
acting as an administrator. In any case, is there a folder for the
executable programs installed? For any Windows version, it would
normally be at C:\Program Files\OpenOffice.org 2.4\program. If the
programs are there, you can create shortcuts to the relevant .exe files
on your desktop (for example, swriter.exe for Writer, the word
processing application). But I'm not sure they'll be there, it's very
strange not to have the Start menu folder. What happened during the
installation process? Did you do a normal or custom install?
