For now, I am using the registrar module to save the location, but I think I can get rid of it and simply use the above parameters.
No. The Via-Header in requests is used to define the path for routing back the replies. The registrar module (in combination with usrloc) is used to find the contact of a registered UAC to be able to route new requests to a client.
