Greetings,

I updated my contributed Scientific Linux 6 (32-bit and 64-bit) OS Templates.
While there were some package updates that were done since the last rebuild the
exciting addition to today is that Scientific Linux announced on Oct. 17th that
they had built all of the "Software Collections" packages that Red Hat had
released for RHEL6. What is software collections? For more info see:

https://access.redhat.com/site/documentation/en-US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Linux/6/html/Developer_Guide/chap-RHSCL.html

With the software collections repo added to the Scientific Linux 6 OS Template
one can easily install:

mariadb55, mysql55, nodejs010, perl516, php54, postgresql92, python27,
python33, ruby193

That makes EL6 a much more flexible server environment.

It appears CentOS is also working on offering Software Collections packages but
they aren't done yet. If and when they are available, I'll add that repo to my
contributed CentOS 6 OS Templates.

Please note no additional packages have been installed other than the
yum-conf-softwarecollections-1.0-1.el6.noarch.rpm package provided by
Scientific Linux which includes the repo files needed to access the new
packages/repos.

You can find the updated OS Templates in the standard contributed OS Templates
directory:

They are:

scientific-6-x86-20131025.tar.xz.asc 25-Oct-2013 15:42 198
scientific-6-x86_64-20131025.tar.xz 25-Oct-2013 15:42 107M
scientific-6-x86_64-20131025.tar.xz.asc 25-Oct-2013 15:42 198

Enjoy,
