The problem with *release package is that vzlinux-release is intended to replace centos*release packages. But since the VzLinux7 times, it only replaces "centos-release", not the modern variety of centos release packages.
Will add necessary Provides/Obsolete soon to fix this. Problems with distro-sync are more interesting, should take a deeper look.
