the offending characters are not replaced.
Do I have to use another method to make these characters know to pdfbox, or is the
"private range" of Unicode excluded from pdfbox replacements?
Without having a hand on the pdf or at least getting some more information about
the used font including its parameters it'll be impossible to figure that out.
Can you provide us with the needed information?
