Sorry for my slow response here. Ahh, good that you found an existing open Jira issue. Are you saying your PDF example shows the same problem as the chinese.pdf attached to PDFBOX-5? It could still be useful to add it as an attachment to the issue, eg saying "here is another PDF, also in Chinese, showing the same problem". Unfortunately I don't know of any workaround for embedded fonts that don't map to known unicode characters. I don't fully understand the problem, but from what I do understand it sounds like the font simply does not include enough information. Do you control the production of the PDFs? Mike
