Your posts have brought one interesting problem: on a system with no
fonts, there may be problems using the standard 14 fonts, at least for
Symbol and Zapf Dingbats. The current code tries to look at the generic
fallback font, which of course doesn't have it. But this isn't needed IMHO.

one early 2.0 version had a problem with creating PDF files with Zapf
