Thanks, I got it to run.
And now I think I understand why in my signature code I had to use
additional tricks, but not in the existing annotation appearance code:
for signatures, the graphics + texts are not to appear rotated, but for
ordinary annotations, they rotate with the page.
I'll see what I can do for you....
