I posted the same question on StackOverflow, and @mkl responded, hinting that the issue is actually in the original PDF, produced by Aspose PDF.Net. That original PDF has the cross reference table split into sections, which causes Adobe Acrobat to complain when it validates the signature of such a document that also supported post-signing incremental updates (which is what I do in order to embed the OCSP and CRL content in DSS and VRI dictionaries).
